PURPOSE: To obtain an olefinic copolymer which can be controlled in its properties so as to be a soft one or a rigid one and can be suitably used in various fields, by polymerizing two specified olefinic hydrocarbons in the presence of a specified catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: This olefinic copolymer comprises repeating units of formula I (wherein R is H or a 1W4C alkyl group) and repeating units of formula II (wherein m is an integer ≥2). This copolymer can be obtained in the following way. Namely, an olefinic hydrocarbon of formula III (wherein R is as defined in formula I) and an olefinic hydrocarbon of formula IV (wherein n is an integer ≥2) are polymerized in the presence of a catalyst based on a transition metal compound and an organometallic compound of a Group IWV element of the periodic table.
