To obtain an inexpensive and highly reliable remote control system for vehicle-mounted equipment, which is a smart entry/start system, and which avoids interference (collision) with other radio communication systems.
On condition that only the interference (collision) of a transmission frequency band from the vehicle-mounted equipment occurs in two-way communications with different frequencies, a means for detecting information on RSSI (reception signal strength) is provided on the side of a portable machine. On the basis of the information, the vehicle-mounted equipment is notified that other carriers are not in the transmission frequency band of the vehicle-mounted equipment, and the transmission timing of the vehicle-mounted machine is controlled, so that the interference (collision) with electric waves of the other systems can be avoided.
