PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the view of the whole of a water gate without protruding a hydraulic cylinder largely upward by providing a part of an opening and closing device body corresponding to the middle position of the lift of a door body with a pause device for temporarily holding the door body, and spanworm- shapedly actuating a door body elevating hydraulic cylinder.
SOLUTION: When a door body 15 is taking a closing position, the piston rod 1' of an elevating hydraulic cylinder 1 connected to the door body is actuated in a stretching direction as far as a stroke being a half of the lift of the door body to oppose trunnion shafts 4, 4 above the cylinder part of the hydraulic cylinder 1 to the engaging hole of the upper trunnion bearing. Next a cylinder for the upper trunnion bearing is actuated in a contraction direction to engage the engaging hole on the upper trunnion shafts 4, 4, and the piston rod 1' is actuated in a contraction direction as far as a stroke being a half of the lift of the door body to move the door body 15 to a middle position. Then a pause hydraulic cylinder 12 is actuated in a stretching direction to make a pin hole on a pause beam 13 engage on the pause pin of the piston rod 1'.
