To issue an alarm to a driver at proper timing, when the driver gets sleepy.
This driving state warning system/method includes a physiological information acquisition-processing means for acquiring physiological information of the driver, a state change index calculation-processing means for calculating a state change index expressing a degree of state change from an awake state of the driver, based on the physiological information, and a warning processing means for issuing the alarm to the driver at different timing in response to the state change index. The alarm is issued to the driver at the proper timing when the driver gets sleepy, since the alarm is issued to the driver at the different timing, in response to the state change index expressing the degree of state change from the awake state of the driver.
