To obtain a modified product containing a small amount of heavy substances and carbonaceous substances and a large amount of light substances by efficiently modifying an organic substance into a low-molecular product using a gas that can be stably supplied when converting the organic substance into the low-molecular product such as a gaseous product or a liquid product, and to utilize the modified product as a fuel or a reducing agent in a blast furnace or an ironworks.
By adding excess water vapor to an exhaust gas (g0) containing carbon monoxide generated in a metallurgical furnace and making shift reaction, a mixed gas (g) containing hydrogen and carbon dioxide gas generated by the shift reaction and the water vapor not consumed for the shift reaction is obtained. A gaseous product and/or a liquid product manufactured by bringing an organic substance into contact with the mixed gas (g), modifying the organic substance into the low-molecular product is blown into a blast furnace, or is utilized as a fuel and/or a reducing agent in an ironworks.
