Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prepare an ophthalmic composition useful for treating intraocular hypertension by including a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor represented by a specific formula and a β-adrenergic antagonist therein.
CONSTITUTION: This ophthalmic composition comprises 0.5-5%(wt./vol.) carbonic anhydrase inhibitor represented by the formula [A is C or N; Z is NHR or OR (R is a 1-6C alkyl); R1 is H, a 1-3C alkyl or a 1-4C alkoxy-1-4C alkyl; X is SO2 or C(O)] and 0.01-1%(wt./vol.) β-adrenergic antagonist such as timolol as active ingredients. The composition can be formulated as a form such as a solution, a gel, an ointment, a suspension or a solid insert. The concentration of the carbonic anhydrase inhibitor is 0.5-3%(wt./vol.) and that of the β- adrenergic antagonist is 0.1-0.5%(wt./vol.). Both the agents are used in combination to thereby double effects thereof.
