PURPOSE: To improve optical characteristics, heat resistance, impact resistance, water resistance, moldability and surface accuracy by melting a thermoplastic resin having norbornane skeleton and specified weight average mol.wt. by heat, then solidifying the molten resin in metallic mold.
CONSTITUTION: This ophthalmic lens is produced by melting the thermoplastic resin having the norbornane skeleton and 5000 to 1000000 weight average mol.wt. by heat, then solidifying the molten resin in the metallic mold. Namely, the thermoplastic resin used for the ophthalmic lens has the norbornane skeleton is its structure, i.e., its repeating unit. The more specific examples of the thermoplastic resin having the norbornane skeleton to be used includes a resin formed by hydrogenating the ring-opening-polymer of a monomer having the norbornane skeleton and a resin formed by addition polymn. of the monomer having the norbornane skeleton. Two or more kinds of the monomers having the norbornane skeleton may be used. The method for the polymn. and hydrogenation is not particularly limited and may be executed in accordance with the conventional method.
