PURPOSE: To improve the reproducing sensitivity by providing a waveguide substrate on which a first TE-TM mode splitter for allowing a first waveguide to branch into a second waveguide and a third waveguide, and a second TE-TM mode litter for allowing a third waveguide to branch into a fourth waveguide and a fifth waveguide are formed.
CONSTITUTION: The device is provided with a waveguide substrate 10 on which a first TE-TM mode splitter 81 for allowing a first waveguide 21 to branch into a second waveguide 22 and a third waveguide 23, and a second TE-TM mode splitter 85 for allowing a third waveguide 23 to branch into a fourth waveguide 24 and a fifth waveguide 25 are formed. In such a state, from a signal light beam led to a fourth waveguide 24 and a fifth waveguide 25, recording information is read and reproduced by using a differential method in the same way as a precedent example. In such a way, at the time of reproducing optically magnetic recording information of a magneto-optical recording medium. the reproducing efficiency is improved, and the detection sensitivity of recording information becomes higher.
