Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize low noise optical amplification in a phase sensitive optical amplifier by a homodyne optical PLL system.
SOLUTION: An optical amplifier provided with an exciting light source, a phase sensitive optical amplifier receiving signal light and exciting light, and an exciting light phase control means for synchronizing an optical phase of the exciting light with that of the signal light, comprises a signal light polarization control means for converting the signal light into linearly polarized light and inputting it to the phase sensitive optical amplifier, and an exciting light polarization control means for converting the exciting light into elliptically polarized light and inputting it to the phase sensitive optical amplifier, and the exciting light phase control means comprises a polarized light demultiplexing means for demultiplexing a specific polarized component from two multiplexed light obtained by multiplexing the signal light and the exciting light, a phase error detecting means for detecting an optical phase error between the signal light and the exciting light by balanced detection of a specific polarized component demultiplexed from the two multiplexed light, and a filter means for filtering the error signal outputted from the phase error detecting means and feeding it back to the exciting light source.
