PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical branching device which can change a branching ratio with little loss and in a wide area.
SOLUTION: The optical branching device 10 is provided with a main waveguide 11, a tapered waveguide 12 and a branch waveguide group 15 including a first and a second branch waveguides 13 and 14. The tapered waveguide 12 has a first end part 21 connected with the main waveguide 11, a second end part 22 connected with branch waveguides 13 and 14, and both side parts 23 and 24. The both side parts 23 and 24 are extended in a tapered shape from the first end part 21 toward the second end part 22. Widths W3 and W4 of the branch wave guides 13 and 14 differs to each other. At a connection part of the tapered waveguide 12 and the branch waveguide 13 and 14, a width W6 of the whole branch waveguide group 15 is narrower than a width W2 of the second end part 22. Level different parts 30 and 31 are formed between the branch waveguide group 15 and the both side parts 23 and 24 of the tapered waveguide 12.
