To provide an optical cable that compactly store and hold the wound part for varying an extra length, that can be protected against being pulled by birds or the like, and that facilitates process such as installation work, extra length adjustment, and transportation.
The optical cables 11, 11' are provided with bodies 12, 12' for which coated optical fibers are covered with a jacket. The optical cables are characterized in that a part of the cable is formed of a winding portion 17 formed by a plurality of winding turns which are wound with a diameter equal to or larger than the allowed curve diameter of the optical fiber, and the winding portion 17 is wound around a winding body 19. And, the winding body 19 is formed so that the outer diameter is equal to or larger than the allowed curve diameter of the optical fiber.
