Abstract:
PURPOSE:To read lines in a multi-field longer than the viewfield width by providing a means which selects and outputs only the result of recognition of the field included completely in a viewfield. CONSTITUTION:A scanner 1 is held by a hand 2 and applied to an original 3. Thus the characters on the original 3 are illuminated by a light source 4 and form the images on an image sensor 6 by a lens system 5. These images are converted to the electric signals showing the while and the black by a control binarizing circuit 7. The characters in the pictures caught by the sensor 6 are recognized by a character recognizing means 21. The position information on the characters and the result of recognition are given to a field selecting means 22. The means 22 is set contiguous to the edge of a viewfield by means of the position information and excludes the fields which are incompletely included in the viewfield. A format check means 23 sends the result of recognition of the field filling a prescribed format to an output deciding means 24.
