CONSTITUTION: The optical character reader 10A has a reader main body 11, an image detection section 16 detecting an image of a slip P, a recognition section recognizing characters on the form P based on the detected image of the form, a display section 13 displaying the result of recognition, and a confirmation window 12 provided to the reader main body 11 so as to recognize visually the characters on the form P supplied in the reader main body 11 from the outside of the reader main body 11. Since the result of recognition displayed on the detection section 13 and the form P itself seen through the confirmation window 12 are collated, it is not required to extract the form P from the reader main body 11.
