PURPOSE: To produce a light weight optical chopper by providing a shielding body for intermitting a light and its driving motor, making the surface of the shielding body non-orthogonal to a driving motor shaft, and installing the driving motor to a state that its revolving shaft and an optical path of an intermitted light are not parallel to each other.
CONSTITUTION: A titled optical chopper has a shielding body 2 for intermitting a light, and a driving motor 3, the shielding surface of the shielding body 2 is non-orthogonal to a revolving shaft of the motor 3, and the revolving shaft of the motor is not parallel to an optical path to be intermitted. The shielding body 2 has a structure which has notched a part of the peripheral surface of a cylinder, and it is rotated centering around a cylindrical shaft. Accordingly, only when the notch has overlapped the optical path, a light passes through. In such a way, a small-sized and light optical chopper which does not waste a light quantity can be realized.
