Abstract:
PURPOSE: To integrate a transmission and a reception circuit component in a single integrated circuit by adopting a configuration an optical transmission reception means of each node such that it generates a message signal when its threshold level is biased and receives a message signal form other node when receiving another bias in a different way. CONSTITUTION: A node 10 includes a surface light emitting element LED 12. The LED 12 is coupled with a multi-mode optical fiber 14 via a lens element 16 so that a core area of a fiber 14 is concentric to an active face of the LED 12. The LED 12 is further coupled with a transmission/reception integrated circuit 18. In the transmission mode, the surface LED 12 is connected to a transmission circuit component 15 and generates a transmission message signal M. The message signal passes through the lens 16 and enters the fiber 14. Upon the receipt of the message, the LED 12 is biased by 0V (or back biased as other embodiment) and acts like a photo diode converting all received optical signal R into an electronic equivalent. The electronic equivalent passes through a reception circuit component 17.
