To provide an optical compensation film for a liquid crystal display element excellent in heat resistance and exhibiting a small phase difference in the film plane and a large phase difference out the film plane.
The optical compensation film for a liquid crystal display element is obtained by laminating two optically anisotropic uniaxially-stretched films so that a narrow angle formed by a lagging axis in the film plane of one of the films and an advancing axis in the film plane of the other is set within a range of 0±10°, wherein the optically anisotropic uniaxially-stretched films each form negative birefringence and comprise 40-95 wt.% of a copolymer (a) comprising specific olefin residue units and specific N-phenyl substituted maleimide residue units and having a weight average molecular weight (expressed in terms of standard polystyrene) of 5×103 to 5×106, and 60-5 wt.% of an acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer (b) comprising acrylonitrile residue units and styrene residue units in a weight ratio of 20:80 to 35:65 and having a weight average molecular weight (expressed in terms of standard polystyrene) of 5×103 to 5×106.
