PURPOSE: To provide an optical composite overhead ground wire which can be manufactured easily without damaging an optical fiber by covering the groove of the spacer housing the optical fiber with a metallic plate cover or a metallic element wire cover thereby protecting the optical fiber.
CONSTITUTION: In an optical composite overhead ground ire including an optical fiber, the optical fiber 5 is housed in the groove 3 of a spacer 8, and this groove 3 is covered with a metallic plate cover 1, and then metallic element wires 6 and 7 at the first and second layers are wound thereon. At that time, it is to be desired that the metallic plate cover 1 should be chamfered not to fall in the groove 3, and that the thickness of the metallic plate cover 1 should be selected not to bring about unevenness to the periphery of the spacer 8. This metallic plate cover or metallic element wire cover can be provided efficiently, being intertwined with the same process with the intertwining work of the outer-layer metallic element wires.
