To provide an optical connecting member that dispenses with a process of removing the coating of an optical fiber and that reduces a connecting portion.
Coated optical fibers 11, 12 are cut off with the coatings 11b, 12b attached to form parts 11c, 12c from which the coatings 11b, 12b are simultaneously removed at the tip end respectively. As a result, a process of removing the coating can be eliminated, which improves the working efficiency and which also enables the coating-removed part 11c, 12c to be formed with a reduced length. Then, in a glass fiber storing section 13, there are stored the coating-removed parts 11c, 12c formed at the tip end of the secondary coated optical fibers 11, 12. Also, in a coated fiber storing sections 14a, 14b, the secondary coated optical fibers 11, 12 attached with the coatings 11b, 12b are stored and fixed. Here, since the length L of the coating-removed parts 11c, 12c is set to be not smaller than the outside diameter d of the secondary coated optical fibers 11, 12 and not larger than twenty times the outer diameter d, the connecting portion can be reduced in length.
