PURPOSE: To regulate the light shielding time of an optical line within a prescribed allowable period, by separating the butting end faces of first and second optical connectors as detecting optical transmission loss at the time of separating them.
CONSTITUTION: When the butting end faces 1b and 2b of the first and second optical connectors 1 and 2 are separated, the optical transmission loss between those first and second optical connectors 1 and 2 is detected, and the separation of the butting end faces 1b and 2b of the first and second optical connectors 1 and 2 is performed so that detected transmission loss can be set at a value within the prescribed allowable value. Thereby, it is possible to switch the separation distance of the butting end faces 1b and 2b of the first and second optical connectors 1 and 2 mechanically without being affected by variance in the shape of the optical connector and the fluctuation in the embedding position of a coated optical fiber 2a. In such a way, it is possible to surely separate the connectors to a position where the optical transmission loss is set within an allowable value range, and to shorten the light shielding period within the prescribed allowable time.
