PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the concentric application of a bending stress on the adjacent parts of the first adhesive in the exposed parts of optical fibers.
SOLUTION: This optical coupler has the exposed parts 4 of the optical fibers which are formed by removing the coating layers 2 of plural pieces of coated optical fibers 3 formed by applying the coating layers 2 on optical fibers 1 by the prescribed length, the fused parts 5 of the optical fibers formed where plural pieces of the exposed parts 4 of the optical fibers are partly welded and stretched, an internal reinforcing member 6 which is attached to the fused parts 5 of the optical fibers and an external reinforcing material 7 in which the ends of the exposed parts 4 of the optical fibers, the fused parts 5 of the optical fibers and the coating layers 2 are inserted. The internal reinforcing 6 and the exposed parts 4 of the optical fibers are fixed by the first adhesive 8. The external reinforcing material 7 and the exposed parts of the optical fibers 4 or the coating layers 2 are fixed by the second adhesive 9. The parts of the exposed parts 4 of the optical fibers adjacent to the outer side of the first adhesive 8 viewed from the fused parts 5 of the optical fibers are coated by the third adhesive having the Young's modulus lower than the Young's modulus of the first adhesive 8.
