Title:
OPTICAL COUPLING JIG FOR OPTICAL FIBER WITH COATING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS60221707
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To perform efficient and stable optical coupling by clamping an optical fiber between two curved metallic members with a groove, and curving the optical fiber and also filling their gap with transparent liquid.

CONSTITUTION: The two metallic members 1 and 2 which has a groove and also has an about 5mm radius of curvature lengthwise are arranged abutting on each other, and then the gap 3 is formed. Coated optical fibers 4 and 5 are clamped in the gap 3, which is filled with transparent silicone oil with a 1.469 refractive index. At this time, the optical fibers 4 and 5 are so curved as to meet specific requirements, incident light is emitted from the core on the clad where total reflection condition between the core and clad is not satisfied and enters the silicone oil. This emitted which enters the silicone oil reaches the optical fiber 5 and is coupled optically. Thus, efficient and stable optical coupling is attained.
