To realize an optical crossconnect system in which a trouble can be repaired easily and maintenance can be facilitated.
An input stage 12 comprises four matrix switches 12-1 to 12-4 of 4 inputs and 8 outputs. An intermediate stage 14 comprises eight matrix switches 14-1 to 14-8 of 4 inputs and 4 outputs. An output stage 16 comprises four matrix switches 16-1 to 16-4 of 8 inputs and 4 outputs. Output port #1 of each matrix switch at the input stage 12 and input port #1 of each matrix switch at the output stage 16 are standby ports. A controller 20 stores trouble information of the matrix switch in the optical crossconnect system 10 in a trouble table 22, stores the information of a route under use in the optical crossconnect system 10 in a route table 24 under use and sets a new route upon occurrence of a trouble.
