An optical device includes: a photographic lens unit; shake detection means for detecting a device shake; correction means which can be driven within a prescribed range in a direction perpendicular to an optical axis and optically corrects an image shake; control means for controlling the correction means based on an output from the shake detection means; changing means for changing a range of correction by the correction means; filter means which is arranged in the photographic lens unit and attenuates an amount of light which entered an image pickup device; and changing means for driving the filter means and changing a light amount attenuated by the filter means according to change in brightness. The changing means reduces the range of correction by the correction means as the attenuated amount of light increases.
