Abstract:

To provide a new optical device for terahertz waves, which has a nonconventional constitution, is excellent in productivity and has various merits such as a high degree of freedom in shape; and to provide a method for producing the optical element.

The optical device for terahertz waves includes a diamond base body in which a working part working optically on incident light of terahertz waves is formed inside. The working part has such a structure that columnar electrically-conductive portions formed by change of property of a diamond are arrayed cyclically. The optical element like this can be formed by irradiating the diamond base body with femtosecond laser.
