Title:
OPTICAL DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2001281712
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a new optical device in which generation of air bubbles by electrolysis of a liquid which can be absorbed in a polymer gel can be prevented, stable response characteristics for repeated use are obtained, changes in the scattering rate of light, reflectance and absorption of light are large without influences by the color of a colored electrode.

The optical device has a colored stimulation responding polymer gel 10 and a liquid 12 which can be absorbed in the polymer gel 10 held between a colored electrode 16 and an electrode 20 facing each other, and has a light- shielding layer 14 on the colored electrode 16. The light-shielding layer 14 is preferably formed in a porous and/or fibrous structure. Moreover, at least a part of the colored electrode 16 is preferably made of an active material which oxidizes or reduces by applying electricity.
