Abstract:
To provide an optical device and the like that improve modulation efficiency while reducing power consumption.SOLUTION: An optical device includes: a waveguide; a coplanar-structured electrode including a signal electrode and a ground electrode running in parallel with the waveguide; and an electro-optic polymer interaction portion that is partially inserted into a slot in the waveguide and acts on light passing through the waveguide according to a driving voltage of a high frequency signal from an electrode. The optical device includes: an extra length portion of the electro-optic polymer extending to an input side and an output side of the interaction portion; and another waveguide that is not connected to the waveguide, and is formed by partially inserting the extra length portion into a slot between a first doped layer connected to the ground electrode running in parallel to the extra length portion and a second doped layer connected to the signal electrode running in parallel to the extra length portion.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
