Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency in use of a data area by providing a means to confirm the position of the defective part of an optical disk and to store data to be stored in the defective part at an alternate position. CONSTITUTION:A position signal register 4 inputs a read/write head selection signal 1 and a track position instruction signal 3 from a host device, and also, outputs a selection position information signal 5. A defective position information register 8 consists of the defective part position information storage parts 91-9m and alternate part position information storage parts 101-10m of the optical disk 22. A position signal comparison part 7 compares position information signals by inputting the selection position information signal 5 from the position signal register 4 and a defective part position information signal 6 from the defective position information register 8. Furthermore, a signal selection part 13 inputs a signal from the position signal comparison part 7 and selects whether to output alternate part information 11 from the alternate part position information storage parts 101-10m, or to output the selection position signal 5 from the position signal register 4. In such a way, the efficiency in use of the data area can be improved.
