PURPOSE: To optimize data reading of an exclusive data reproducing area and a data recording area by detecting a data field identification flag and controlling condition of reading of reproduced signals.
CONSTITUTION: The device is provided with a detecting means that detects a data field identification flag F (F1, F2) and a controlling means that controls to optimize condition of reading of reproduced signals of an optical disk 1 in an exclusive data reproducing area 4 and data recording area 3 basing on detected data field identification flag F (F1, F2). By this constitution, reproduced signals of small amplitude from the exclusive data reproducing area and reproduced signals of large amplitude from the dot section of the data recording area 3 can be read out at respective optimum binary coding level and waveform equalizing. Further, optimum data reading of an R/O disk having a data recordable area can be made.
