Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the conversion efficiency of an optical fiber amplifier by efficiently utilizing residual exciting light power generated at the time of increasing an average excitation rate while assuring the stable operation of an exciting light source.
SOLUTION: The exciting light is made incident on the optical fiber amplifier provided with a rare earth doped fiber 1 from one end of this rare earth doped fiber 1 by a first optical coupler 3-1. The residual exciting light arriving at the other end of the rare earth doped fiber 1 is separated by a second optical coupler 3-2 as a result of the incidence of the exciting light from the one end of the rare earth doped fiber 1. In addition, the residual exciting light is reflected by a reflecting means 4 and is returned into the rare earth doped fiber 1. The unstable operation that the exciting light source 2 for the exciting light incident on the rare earth doped fiber 1 makes by the residual exciting light returned into the rare earth doped fiber 1 is prevented by using an optical isolating means 5.
