Abstract:

To provide an optical-fiber based thrust load measuring system.

This optical-fiber based thrust load measuring system (10) is connected to a bearing housing (50). The measuring system includes at least one optical fiber sensor (12) constituted so as to detect one or a plurality of parameters related to the bearing housing. An optical coupler (30) is constituted so as to adjust a light signal radiated from a light source (26) and a light signal reflected by the optical fiber sensor. A detector system (32) is constituted so as to receive a light signal from the optical coupler (30). A processor (34) is constituted so as to receive output from the detector system (32), and to determine a thrust load to a thrust bearing (68) based on one or a plurality of detected parameters related to the bearing housing (50).
