Title:
OPTICAL FIBER CABLE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5917508
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent infiltration of water for a long distance in an optical fiber cable by packing a water absorptive resin in the gap parts in a space so that the water permeated into a pat of the cable owing to a damage is absorbed by the resin and that the further permeation of the water is prevented.

CONSTITUTION: An optical fiber cable consists of a spacer 1, a sheath 2, an optical fiber 3, and a water absorptive rsin 4. The fiber 3 is made of quartz glass, polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene, etc. The water absorptive resin is a hydrophilic and water absorptive resin which is insoluble in water, and is particularly a hydrogel-formable and water absorptive resin that absorbs as much water as possible by contacting with water, more preferably a hydrogel-formable and water absorptive resin having the power to absorb ≥50 times of the own-weight of water contg. no ions. The preferred examples are self-crosslinking type sodium polyacrylate, and a hydrolyzate of starch-acrylonitride grafted copolymer.
