Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an induced Brillouin scattering suppression optical fiber which is easily manufactured and has low optical loss and high strength.
SOLUTION: A boron doped layer 4 mixed with boron as a dopant changing linear expansion coefficient of qurtz glass is formed in a clad 9 at an outer peripheral side than a mode field radius formed at an outer peripheral side of an optical fiber core 8. The boron doped layer 4 is made to be a layer having a cross section of a doughnut shape and pernodically changing layer thickness in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber. Therefore, the optical fiber has a boron dopant concn. periodically changed in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber. Residual stress is imparted to the core 8 by the boron doped layer 4 and stress impartment to the core 8 is periodically changed in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber and thereby characteristic of the optical fiber is changed in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber to suppress the generation of induced Brillouin scattering.
