To provide an optical fiber connecting unit capable of surely preventing breakage of an optical fiber connected to a mechanical splice, and improving handleability.
An optical fiber connecting unit 10 comprises: a splice 20 with an extended optical fiber, for gripping and fixing an extended optical fiber 21 drawn out from a terminal of an optical fiber cable 24 on one end side of a mechanical splice 30, and inserting an insertion member 81 between elements divided into halves on the other end side of the mechanical splice 30; and a unit base 40 for holding the mechanical splice 20 with the extended optical fiber. The unit base 40 includes: a base body 50; a splice holder part 60 provided on the base body 50, for holding the mechanical splice 30; and a sheath gripping part 70 provided on the base body 50, for gripping a sheath 25 of the terminal of the optical fiber cable 24.
