Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a system for correcting distortion, which is caused by a transmission line for an extremely long distance, on an optical fiber for performing on-line optical amplification. CONSTITUTION: Concerning the system for transmitting a digital signal having a prescribed pass band on the transmission line by performing on-line optical amplification, the transmission line is provided with plural optical fiber parts 1 and plural optical amplifiers 2, each optical amplifier is inserted between two adjacent optical fiber parts, the system is provided with devices more than one for performing the on-line correction of noises and distortion generated in the digital signal especially because of propagation on the transmission line, and an on-line corrector 3 is provided with optical band pass filters 4 more than one having a passing band practically corresponding to the passing band of digital signal and saturable absorbers 5 more than one as non-linear passive optical elements to decrease the absorption corresponding to optical power.
