PURPOSE: To improve handling by making a reflection preventive film smaller in area than an end surface of an optical fiber core.

CONSTITUTION: The reflection preventive film 2 which is smaller than the sectional area of the optical fiber 1 and arranged concentrically is formed on the end surface of the optical fiber and the interval between the edge of the reflection preventive film 2 and the edge of the optical fiber core 1 is 5W15% of the diameter of the optical fiber core 1. Consequently, mechanical characteristics of the edge part of the optical fiber with the reflection preventive film are improved to obtain the practical optical fiber which is easy to handle.
