To provide an optical compensation sheet suitable for a reflective liquid crystal display device, a translucent liquid crystal display device, an organic EL display device, etc., and a circularly polarizing plate and an elliptically polarizing plate using the same by a simple production method.
In an optically anisotropic element and a method for producing the same (an optically anisotropic element by the method), a birefringence inductive material is used. Since the material orients molecules in a direction parallel or perpendicular to an electric field oscillation direction of irradiating light to induce birefringence, an in-plane slow axis can be arbitrarily set in a substrate plane according to the electric field oscillation direction of irradiating light. A method for producing an elliptically polarizing plate or a circularly polarizing plate by a simple process is obtained by laminating an optical sheet having a desired in-plane slow axis produced with the material and a long polarizing plate by a roll-to-roll system.
