To develop an optical film having a light exiting means which efficiently changes the optical path of the incident light entering through the side face of a liquid crystal display panel to the viewing direction and which can form a thin and lightweight liquid crystal display device with easily visible display.
The optical film is made of a transparent film provided with a light exiting means comprising a plurality of recesses discontinuously distributed, each recess having a square opening on the film plane and having at least a square cross-sectional form, and the recess having a pair of inclined faces for changing the optical path inclined in the same direction with respect to the film plane. The method for manufacturing the optical film is carried out by irradiating a polymer film with laser light in an oblique direction to the film plane. The method for manufacturing the optical film is carried out by obtaining a mold from the above optical film as the master die by an electroforming method and using the obtained mold and a radiation-curing resin. The liquid crystal display device is equipped with the above optical film disposed in at least one side of a liquid crystal cell.
