To provide an optical film which avoids deformation of a film roll thereof, such as deformation of a horseback shape, transfer of a winding core and creasing at the start of winding on another winding core, even after long-term storage, and which has good suitability to cutting; to provide a polarizing plate and a liquid crystal display using the optical film, and to provide a method of manufacturing the optical film which reduces manufacturing load, equipment load and environmental load due to solvent drying and recovery.

The optical film contains a compound having a graft chain containing a hydroxy acid component in a hydroxy group of a sugar compound in which 1-12 pieces of at least one of structure selected from a furanose ring and a pyranose ring link together.
