Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an optical frequency shifter which takes out exit light of a frequency shifted in plus relative to incident light and exit light of a frequency shifted in minus with one acousto-optic element.
CONSTITUTION: A transducer 2 of this optical frequency shifter which changes the frequency of the light by utilizing a Doppler effect by the acousto-optic element transmits the signal of the frequency fs from an oscillator 3 as an ultrasonic vibration to the acousto-optic element 1. The acousto-optic element 1 generates a periodic change of refractive index by the ultrasonic vibration transmitted by the transducer 2, thereby, the incident light 11 is diffracted and the exit light 21 of the frequency lower than the frequency of the incident light 11 is emitted, and also the incident light 12 is diffracted and the exit light 22 of the frequency higher than the frequency of the incident light 12 is emitted. Prisms 4a, 4b spatially separate the incident light 11, 12 and the exit light 21, 22.
