To provide an optical head device equipped with such a magnetic driving mechanism that suppresses the generation of unnecessary thrust to efficiently drive a lens holder.
The magnetic driving mechanism 40 of the optical head device 1 is equipped with a driving coil unit 20 mounted on the lens holder 10 and a driving magnet 30 arranged at a prescribed position. The driving coil unit 20 consists of a yoke 25, driving coils 21, 22 for focusing attached to the yoke, and driving coils 23, 24 for tracking composed of planar coils. The driving coils 23, 24 for tracking composed of planar coils are provided with a pair of opposing sides 23a, 23b and 24a, 24b in which a winding wire extends inversely along the focusing direction; on the inner opposing sides 23a, 24a, a magnetic line of force flows from the driving magnet 30 to the yoke 25; on the other opposing sides 23b, 24b, a return magnetic line of force flows in the opposite direction. Since the driving force in the tracking direction is generated by both pairs of opposing sides 23a, 23b, 24a, 24b, an efficient magnetic driving mechanism can be realized.
