PURPOSE: To speedily access an IC memory of an optical IC composite card of different type.

CONSTITUTION: An identifier 13 is provided on the rear side of an optical IC composite card 11 to show the position of an IC memory 2. An optical head 21 is moved toward an axis (x) at a position where an identifier detecting area 24 is irradiated with light beams 22, and the card 11 is moved toward an axis (y) while the area 24 is irradiated with the beams 22. The movement of the card 11 is stopped when the head 21 detects the identifier 13 by the change of quantity of the reflected light of the beam 22. An IC head 23 is moved toward an axis (z) from the stop position of the card 11. Thus, the head 23 is set just opposite to the memory 2 and the memory of the card 11 can be accessed.
