Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a rewritable recording medium which enables the reproduction of recorded data with a CD drive.

CONSTITUTION: A substrate of the medium is provided with a guide groove having a 1.5 to 1.7μm pitch, 0.6 to 0.95μm width and 15 to 30nm depth and this medium is formed by successively laminating at least an intermediate layer, a dielectric protective layer, a phase transition type optical recording layer, another dielectric protective layer and a reflection layer in that order on this substrate. The phase transition type optical recording layer has a composition within the tetragonal region formed with the following four compositional points (on percent scales) of A, B, C and D in the Ge-Sb-Te ternary composition diagram: A is Ge47Sb6Te47; B is Ge43Sb14Te43; C is Ge34Sb17Te49; and D is Ge31Sb24 Te45.
