PURPOSE: To improve a servo chararcteristic and to move an optical pickup more stably by minimizing vibration generated by a stepping motor at the time of moving the optical pickup in the optical information recording and reproducing device such as a compact disk player, etc.

CONSTITUTION: This device is constituted so that the vibration of the optical pickup 3 when the optical pickup 3 is moved to a target position by the stepping motor 7 to be a traverse means is detected by a focus error quantity detecting circuit 11, and the driving current of the stepping motor 7 is varied by a driving current varying circuit 12 in accordance with the detected quantity. By the constitution, the pickup 3 is moved stably.
