PURPOSE: To attain normal tracking and tracking jump by providing an offset compensation circuit system so as to compensate a tracking error signal.
CONSTITUTION: The light signal of tracking information by an optical pickup subject to focus control is received by a track detection photodetector 8 and a digital data of a peak value of a tracking error signal by a peak hold circuit 34 of the offset compensation circuit system and an A/D conversion circuit 35 is fed to a CPU 36. Then the CPU 36 detects an offset of a tracking error signal from the peak data, references a built-in memory to decide a bias data fed to an output signal of an objective lens detector 27 to compensate the offset. The bias data is added to the output of the detector 27 via a D/A conversion circuit 28 of the offset compensation system and a bias application circuit 29 or the like to control a lens 26. Thus, the offset of the tracking error signal due to deviation of the optical axis is compensated automatically to always attain normal tracking and track jump.
