Title:
OPTICAL ISOLATOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3426661
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make reverse-directional loss large and to make a birefringent plate, which causes a rise in cost, thin by forming or arranging holograms on at least one optical path surface of the polarizer of the optical isolator except an optical path aperture.
CONSTITUTION: A 1st birefringent plate 2, a Faraday rotator 5, a 2nd birefringent plate 3, and a 3rd birefringent plate 4 are arrayed in order so that reverse-directional light is not made incident on a 1st optical fiber 10 again. Then the holograms 12 and 13 which have diffracting operation except the effective beam diameter part 14 of the incidence-side light signal beam 6 of the 1st birefringent plate 2 at the position are formed on one surfaces where the light signal beam 6 is made incident. The incidence-side light signal beam 6 outputted from an incidence-side optical fiber 10 on the side of the 1st birefringent plate 2 becomes parallel through a lens 8 and passes through the effective beam diameter part 14 of the 1st birefringent plate 2 and is projected from the 1st birefringent plate 2 as two parallel lights, which are multiplexed by the 2nd and 3rd birefringent plates 3 and 4 into one parallel light, so that the light is converged by a lens 9 without any loss.
