Abstract:

PURPOSE: To detect and measure various physical parameters by providing a sensor whose variation in spectroreflectivity or spectrotransmissivity is induced by a physical parameter to be measured, and whose output light is spectrally modulated in a function of the physical parameter by the variation.
CONSTITUTION: Incident light from a light source 10 enters a sensor optical fiber 14 through an input optical fiber 12, an optical beam splitter 18 and a connector 20. An optical modulation type sensor 22 is connected to a fiber 14 so as to receive the incident light. An optical resonator 21 has reflecting surfaces 13, 15 having a reflectivity and a transmissivity of the optical resonator 21. Both values are a function of a photosensitive physical characteristic of the resonator 21. The output light from the sensor 22 is spectromodulated so as to give a function of the optical sensitive characteristic. The modulated output light is optically coupled with the optical detector 30 through an output optical fiber 16. The output signal is fed to an output terminal 36 so as to give a measured value of the physical parameter to be measured.
