In the process of manufacturing an antireflection film 16, 17, 18, 19 as the optical member, a liquid in which ultrafine particles of metals or metal compounds having ≤10 nm average particle size is dispersed is applied on the top surface 141 of the film base material 14, and the ultrafine particles are fixed to the film base material 14 to form the antireflection layer consisting of a layer 15 of the ultrafine particles.
