To provide an optical member used in a backlight unit for a display, the optical member improving the direction, range and luminance distribution of light from a backlight source and being low in manufacturing cost.

The optical member, which is used in the backlight unit for a display, is composed of: an optical sheet 5 provided on the base material 6; a lens part 9 formed on the front surface side of the optical sheet 5, the lens part comprising parallely arranged unit lenses; and a light-reflecting layer 7 formed on the back surface side of the optical sheet 5, the layer 7 having convex parts. In addition, an adhesive layer 4 is provided between the base material 6 and the back surface side of the optical sheet 5, and the convex parts of the light-reflecting layer 7 are partially buried in the adhesive layer 4, and air layers 10 are formed by spaces formed by the adhesive layer 4 and the non-buried parts of the convex parts of the light-reflecting layer 7. Further, the base material 6 and the optical sheet 5 are united as one body in the state. The method of manufacturing the optical member is also provided.
