Abstract:
To reduce the size of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer type optical non-reciprocal device.SOLUTION: An optical non-reciprocal device comprises: a 2×2 first coupler 1 and a 2×2 second coupler 2; a first waveguide 3 and a second waveguide 4 connecting two input-output ports of the first coupler 1 and the second coupler 2 to each other; and a first optical non-reciprocal phase shifter 5 and a second optical non-reciprocal phase shifter 6 respectively inserted into the first waveguide 3 and the second waveguide 4. The first optical non-reciprocal phase shifter 5 and the second optical non-reciprocal phase shifter 6 each include a lower clad layer 10, a waveguide core 11 positioned on the lower clad layer 10, a magneto-optical material layer 13 covering side and upper surfaces of the waveguide core 11, and an upper clad layer 12 covering the magneto-optical material layer 13 and the lower clad layer 10. Both sides of the waveguide core 11 of the first optical non-reciprocal phase shifter 5 and the second optical non-reciprocal phase shifter 6 include a plurality of recesses periodically provided in a line direction of the waveguide core 11, which forms irregularities 15.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
