Abstract:
To provide an optical power equalizer that reduces the difference in optical power of signal light carried by each core in an optical communication system that uses coupled multi-core optical fibers.SOLUTION: An optical power equalizer for an optical communication system using a first type first multi-core optical fiber includes: a connecting member that connects a k-th core of the first multi-core optical fiber to the k-th core of a second type second multi-core optical fiber; and a coupler connected to the second multi-core optical fiber, and a second type third multi-core optical fiber, and outputting a signal light from the k-th core of the second multi-core optical fiber to each core of the third multi-core optical fiber. The coupler is composed of a second type multi-core optical fiber. The second type multi-core optical fiber constituting the coupler has at least one coupling region in the longitudinal direction, and a distance between the cores in the at least one coupling region is shorter than a distance between cores in other regions.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
